This article is sponsored by Kia Motors America. We were given a 2017 Kia Niro Hybrid to take on a road trip adventure that began in Pigeon Forge. This in no way shaped my opinions in this post. Special thanks to O.B.I.C. Stables owner Angela for offering us a discount.

I love adventure. But what I really love about adventure are the experiences and unique accommodations. That’s exactly what we had when we stayed in a luxury Airbnb teepee in Lynchburg, VA to wrap up our Fall in the Mountains road trip with Kia. After Driving from Atlanta to Pigeon Forge, through the Great Smoky Mountains into Linville Falls, and along the Blue Ridge Parkway, we found ourselves heading towards southern Virginia. It was here where we found one of the most unique places to stay, pretty much ever. It gave me a whole new perspective on rustic glamping.

I’m telling you, this was AWESOME!

I’ll admit, at first I was a little hesitant to book this stay. But after seeing the photos and chatting with Angela the property owner, I felt pretty good about it. Let me tell you, that’s an understatement.

Picking Up Where We Left Off – Our Last Day of Adventure

We had just spent the morning cooking our breakfast over a campfire after spending the night camping along the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was a beautiful day. The air was crisp, the fall colors were bright and the sun was perfectly shining into the Kia Niro sunroof as we made our way through the North Carolina Mountains and into Virginia.

We spotted a perfect apple orchard along the way with a quaint pumpkin patch out front. It was the kind of place you would picture in a movie, like Fried Green Tomatoes. A perfect little cottage with old country signs stood at the foothill of the farm. The scent of sweet apples filled the air.

I could not resist making a pitstop here.

The 2018 Kia Niro Hybrid was perfect for our adventure! Sponsored

Inside we met the oldest working humans on the planet, I am convinced. They must have been in their 90’s. The old lady and her husband were dressed just as you’d imagine two farmers be dressed in their market. Overalls and a dress. He wore a ball cap, she a long chain with glasses.

Just look at all these pumpkins! Yes!

The old man handed my son the biggest apple I have ever seen. It was easily four times the size of anything I’d ever seen in the store. We decided to get a bag for the drive home. One 15lb bag was $10. I about hit the floor. I couldn’t believe how cheap they were!

We hit the road and one insanely huge apple later, we were in Lynchburg.

This was by far one of the coolest experiences this kiddo had on any fall trip ever.

One of the Most Unique Places to Stay – Luxury Airbnb Teepee

I’ve always awed at the Airbnb pins. They are notorious for offering some of the most unique places to stay. When I started my research for this trip, I knew I wanted to involve a farm, camping, some cool excursions and at least one or two super epic overnight experiences.

We totally pulled that off with the hiking in Linville Falls, the breathtaking vistas through the Great Smoky Mountains and the tiny house. Oh, and I can’t forget the 33-degree camping under the stars. But the luxury teepee thing was totally the icing on a very tasty cake.

It’s so funny because when we first started down the road to the O.B.I.C. Stables we were in a regular neighborhood. And I remember saying to Sean, “Are we in the wrong place?”. But at the end of a normal street there it was, the entrance to O.B.I.C. Stables. We followed a windy driveway which opened up to a lake, a farm, stables and of course, luxury teepees.

It was like we transported to a whole other place.

It was quiet, peaceful, and we were surrounded by animals. A few horses, chickens and your regular run of the mill furry farm friends.

We couldn’t wait to see what this luxury Airbnb teepee was like!

Our Personal Rustic Glamping Experience

Right away I knew this was going to be a super fun experience. The property was well taken care of, the animals were well groomed and friendly, and the teepee was enormous!

We pulled up the Kia Niro and eagerly hopped out to check this thing out! Basically, “Oh my God!” was the first thing out of our mouths. It was beautiful! Every little detail was perfect. The decor, the amenities, even the carpet was super soft! I just kept thinking of how much Sean and Gauge were going to love spending the night.

Of course, we had to check out this outhouse situation, which I think merits an entire section on its own.

The Outhouse Situation

Never have I ever loved an outhouse. True story. Except for this one. I am convinced that the magic of design and decor can make anything cozy. Yes, even an outhouse. There were framed sayings on the walls, air freshener, flowers even! And the flagstone walkway to the door was just as cute.

Right next to the outhouse was a heated outdoor shower as well. Talk about that teepee life!

As the night pressed on…

It didn’t take us long to enjoy the hammock. A few moments to relax beneath the trees was well deserved after the day’s drive. Soon after we had our fire going, both outside and in, and we spent the evening eating campfire food, roasting marshmallows and listening to Sean play guitar.

It was a perfect evening. I couldn’t wait to surprise my son with a horseback ride along the trail in the morning.

Horseback Riding

The next morning my son and I slipped away to the farm to get suited up for my son’s horseback trail ride. We took a few moments to pet the animals. They were all super sweet and, of course, adorable. Horseback riding is an extra charge of $40. You can learn more about that here.

He loved the trail ride and, he especially loved waking Sean up from the top of a horse!

Our stay at O.B.I.C. Ministries was incredible. We couldn’t stop talking about it on the way home. I’m really looking forward to taking another trip there and spending more than just one night.

2018 Kia Niro Hybrid

About the Kia Niro Hybrid

We spent a year with the Kia Niro Hybrid and we love this car! Coming from a Kia Sorento, it was a little bit of a change to get into a crossover, but the comfort and handling of this car made it easy to fall in love. I live just outside of Atlanta which means I deal with a lot of heavy traffic in all kinds of weather. I always feel super confident behind the wheel. The safety features and advanced technology give me a sense of my surroundings and driver control that I’ve never had before. And with the amount of money we save driving a vehicle that runs on EV and fuel getting a combined 50mpg, adventures are that much more doable. Want to know more about this crossover? Check out Kia’s cool website full of specs and video content here and check out the video below!

  1. That Teepee was so cool and I guess it was temperature controlled. The inside looked like any home or hotel. There seemed like so much to do in and around the area especially the pumpkins and apples.

  2. That teepee is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Okay, the second most amazing thing. The first is that apple. Are you sure it was an apple and not a small, red melon of some sort?

WOW – I was mesmerized by all your photos. This is something I would love to do with my girlfriend. Leave the hubs and kid at home. I’m in love with that glampin teepee. Lucky you

  4. OMG, are you kidding me?!? My husband would be ALL OVER this! Definitely something I need to look into for a future vacation!

I was so busy staring at the horses I almost missed the Tee Pee entirely! My mom introduced me to the joy of horses at a very early age. We visited a horse ranch every summer for the entire summer since I was about 5. I LOVE HORSES SO MUCH!!!!

That would be an awesome experience – staying in a teepee.I have only seen them in photos, so this is really something new and exciting that I would love to try!

  7. We love the great outdoors! But as I get older, having some of the comforts of home while camping is appreciated. This looks like the best of both worlds!

  8. I definitely pinned this. I never been camping but I love the idea of boho glamping.

  9. Oh my goodness how freaking cool is this?! I’m totally looking into doing this when we get back to the states. Incredible and memorable, I know the kids would LOVE it.

  10. Awesome vacation idea for the summer! My children would go nuts over this. I am going to check this out and see if we could squeeze this in our summer activities

Those are the fanciest outdoor bathroom facilities I’ve ever seen! I love that you get a bed in the teepee too, it eliminates my most hated part of camping: sleeping on the hard ground.

  12. I had no idea that Air Bnb was offering stays in teepees but then again I have heard that they do castle stays so I guess it makes sense. But how beautiful is this tepee though and the fact that you get to spend some quality time with mother nature doesn’t hurt either!

The Air BNB Teepee sounds like such an amazing place. My daughter and I would have had a great time there. I am surprised at how spacious it all looks. So cool.

  18. I have never been camping before and I think that this luxury Airbnb Teepee would be a perfect place to start!! I also love that this is in Virginia which is a beautiful State that I’m familiar with as I’ve been there many times.

    HI
Loved your pics and comments about the teepee. My husband and I, empty nesters, are going this weekend.
question: Does she have cookware for grilling outside?
    Thanks
    Melinda

    • There was cookware inside! Not sure about over fire. We brought a grill that goes over the campfire so, we used the cookware on that.
