Unique Places to Visit

There are so many different and interesting cities and towns available to explore it is going to be tough to pick a particular peculiar destination. People do love to talk about their favorite oddities, and the internet makes it very easy to keep track of what is trending. If the obscure is what you are looking for, some places just outshine the rest.

Abandon theme parks in Japan

Suwon, South Korea – The Toilet Theme Park

Yes, you did read that properly, there is an amusement park that is completely inspired by toilets and toilet-related activities in South Korea. From an outside perspective, it may seem like one of the strangest things you can do, but if you take your time to learn the history it all starts to make a bit more sense.

The park was built to pay tribute to one particular mayor who took it upon himself to drastically change the sewage and waste systems in the city. They dedicate this theme park in his honor and even hold a Golden Poop Festival. If weird is your thing you cannot get much weirder than this.

Sedlec Ossuary, Czech Republic – The Bone Church

This strange tourist destination is just plain creepy and fascinating all wrapped up in one. Just outside of Prague in the town of Kutna Hora is the Sedlec Ossuary, or the Bone Church. As the nickname implies, it is a church that has almost 50,000 real skeletons ‘decorating’ the interior of the chapel. This one is not for the faint of heart or those freaked out by the macabre, but it is as far out there as you can get and well worth a visit and is an easy day trip if you find yourself in Prague.

Aoshima Island, Japan – Cat Island

Our internet friends are going to go crazy for this one. Aoshima Island is an island in Japan where cats outnumber humans, on average, six to one at any given time. The cats got a little frisky after dealing with the local pests, and now the island is one of a number in the country where cats are allowed to roam free and live out their nine lives. There are some other creepy-cool places in Japan to visit too.

Namibia – The Dead Marsh

Here is one of the most unique natural tourist destinations in the world where it may seem you aren’t even on our planet anymore. This particular forest was completely eradicated by heat and drought so quickly that it is basically frozen in place. It is the stuff that horror movies are made of and is a must-see for any dark tourist looking to go somewhere exotic.

Togo, Africa – The Voodoo Market

To make sure this list ends with an appropriately bizarre bang it is time to throw a bit of voodoo into the mix. This market is spectacular and strange with its offerings and is an important place of trade for traditional healers and voodoo practitioners in West Africa. You can find shrunken heads and different animal parts aplenty to be used in a wide variety of voodoo rituals.

It is time to go explore and do something different. Beaches and cruises can get boring compared to some of the more unique towns and cities in the world, and they are just waiting to show you what they have to offer. Next time you are planning a trip, remember these absolutely bizarre and weirdly unique places to visit.
