If You Need Me I’ll be Princessing at Medieval Times Atlanta – Highlights

A little over a week ago I had the opportunity to visit Medieval Times Atlanta Castle. Having grown up most of my life in Florida, I had been to the Orlando Castle in the past and I loved it! Now that we’ve relocated to the Atlanta area, one of my ATL bucket list items was to visit the Atlanta Castle. Because who doesn’t want an evening of strapping royal knights to sword fight as you dine like it’s 1699?

The Medieval Times Atlanta Experience – Unicorns Welcome

I was pretty shocked to find the Medieval Times Atlanta Castle located in a mall. But this changed nothing when it came to the experience. In fact, it made it super easy for our relatives to show up and join us. Here are some of my favorite highlights of my royal experience:

Everyone (and I do mean everyone) is in character

From the moment we arrived, we were transformed from ordinary mall humans to ladies and lords. Of course, my son is a little prince but I don’t think they got the memo (yar yar yar). The staff was garbed in period clothing and made us feel like we just warped into 1699.

Super cool souvenirs

We were immediately crowned and unleashed into a grand hall surrounded by twinkling LED swords, unicorns and other really cool souvenirs. Sean especially loved the selection of Zelda swords and shields. I loved the fairies and unicorns and my son loved the blinking LED swords and dragons. I loved the selection of gifts. So much that I’ll be shopping there for birthdays and holidays for suresies.

Royal knight armor and a magical owl

Okay so the owl wasn’t magical, but he was cool. Owls are just interesting creatures. You’ll find the Medieval Times Atlanta owl in the grand hall near the restrooms. The armor is incredible. I love seeing armor in real life any chance I can. If you’ve been following us for any length of time, you’ll know that I always photograph armor in the many castles we’ve been to.

Being part of a team so we can root for our royal knight

Who doesn’t love a little fun competition? We were on the white and black team (which uh hem, won). The whole family was totally into cheering our knight on. We watched him joust, sword fight and grapple to the death.

Dining like it’s 1699

That means no forks, spoons or knives. That’s right. We dug into our chicken breast dinner all hands on deck. And it was surprisingly really tasty. I have to say, banquet style meals are usually not that good. It was goooood.

The show…of course

The show was really good. Excellent horsemanship from the Spanish Andalusian, Quarter, and Friesian horses which are trained at the Medieval Times HQ where they are born and bred to be artists. You can learn all about the making of a royal horse here.

The torture chamber!

Unlike the Orlando Castle which is home to the Medieval Village, a collection of medieval artifacts, the Atlanta Castle has just the torture chamber. It holds 24 replicas of medieval torture devices. Kid friendly-ish. I used it as a fine example of how good we have it in 2017 ha!

A Quick Interview with the Winning Royal White Knight

After the show, I had the chance to interview our winning knight. His real name is Brandon Carr, 31 years old. I found out that he’s been wielding twisted steel and royal appeal for eight years. When I asked him how one goes about becoming a royal sword fighting, horse riding knight he told me,

I spent my life in sports. I’ve done all my training here at Medieval Times. I started working the stables then moved onto being a squire and finally swords.”

 

He also shared that he works five days a week and trains daily. I don’t know how many days a week he spends maintaining that pretty hair, but I’m sure that’s a hot minute too. Meow. When I asked him about the hardest and favorite parts of being a royal he said,

Adapting to a new horse is pretty tough. Certain horses are good at certain things. My favorite thing, jousting!”

In Closing

We LOVED our Medieval Times Atlanta Castle experience and can’t wait to experience other castles on our adventures. The souvenirs, horses, food and show, it was all incredible and you can bet we’ll be heading back for special events (like birthdays and anniversaries).
