You all know by now I’m a single mom. One of the hardest parts of making the decision to get a divorce was accepting the fact that our family would be divided. And call me silly, but the first thing that came to mind were the holidays. I was worried that my son would be less enriched and that our holiday season would be more about logistics than the gathering. It really bothered me. But what bothered me even more, was the idea that I would have to share my son every other year. Needless to say, I’ve learned a thing or two about getting together in small numbers.

Single Mom life – The Memories are in the Moments

This year my son was with his father for Thanksgiving. And while that’s never easy, I’ve learned to live with it. It’s my first year in the greater Atlanta area. I have few friends and the only family I have here is my surrogate baby sister Katy (who moved here from back home in Florida in August to live with us). This was going to be a small party of three. But, when it comes to getting together in small numbers, the memories are in the moments. So, Katy, Sean and I set out for an epic three-person Thanksgiving with all the bells and whistles.

And the moments are in the details… Katy and I got up pretty early to start the feast. Of course, we had our favorite wine, Gallo Family Vineyard Wines in hand, laughing and making an epic mess as we managed our way through what may very well be the world’s tiniest kitchen. I, of course, love the Cabernet Sauvignon and Katy loves the Chardonnay.

The day started off with us completely reading the turkey time wrong and having to cram all the last hour stuff an hour ahead. But what would Thanksgiving be without a mishap or four?

Still, the feast was a success, and before we knew it we were on our way to my dear friend Nicole’s house which is the biggest mansion house / The Twelve Oaks Bed & Breakfast, here in Covington. We were heading there to crash the dessert tray and of course, enjoy another glass of wine!

There were many laughs, hugs and glasses of wine between us, and as the night settled in, we were nominating Sean to take us to the Christmas Tree Farm and chop us down a tree!

And that’s exactly what we did.

Now, you can’t watch your man chop down a Christmas tree without sending out a few social blasts. And believe me, they were sent!

By the end of the night, we realized that our day was perfect. Together we enjoyed cooking, friends, good laughs and wine. And we even had a tree to decorate!
