Marvel Launches Challenge Encouraging STEM for Girls

If you’re a girl between the ages of 15-18 and in grades 10-12, this post is for you! In conjunction with Captain America: Civil War (in theaters May 6), Marvel has launched a new program encouraging STEM for girls. The program seeks to inspire young girls to use science and technology to leave their mark and help to create a better world. The Girls Reforming the Future Challenge is supported by the National Academy of Sciences Science & Entertainment Exchange program and if chosen as the winner, you can receive a one-week internship with Marvel Studios.

STEM for Girls – Girls Reforming the Future Challenge

To enter, you can create a new project or submit a project you’ve previously designed. Science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) must be used in the formation of the project, and in a short video, entrants must demonstrate and share how she feels the project could offer a benefit to mankind. Whether it’s a way to help the disabled, make the Earth cleaner, or even something that could revolutionize the world, no project is too big or small to enter.

Five finalists will be selected and each will:

  • Receive a $500 High Yield Savings account from Synchrony Bank.
  • Receive a trip to Hollywood, California for the finalist and a parent or legal guardian for the opportunity to present their project to leaders in science and industry at MARVEL STUDIOS.
  • Will participate in a live global Broadcom Masters webinar during which they will discuss how their STEM skills enabled them to create their projects.
  • Have the opportunity to walk the red carpet at the World Premiere of MARVEL’S CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR on April 12, 2016.
  • Receive a tour of the Walt Disney Studios and Dolby Laboratories facilities.

The final winner will receive a one-week internship at Marvel Studios.

STEM for girls

While we women may not have as many female superheroes as our male counterparts, we can certainly rock it when it comes to science and technology. I’m thrilled to see Marvel offering such a fantastic program specifically geared at STEM for girls. I hope for more validation and promotion of the incredible intelligence and strengths that girls bring to the industry, both on and off the screen.

Entries will be accepted through March 26. For applications and more information about the program, visit
