I was invited as a guest of Northern Ireland to explore these locations along with film locations on an all-expenses paid trip to Belfast and the northern coast. This in no way shaped my opinions in this article.
Exploring The Game Of Thrones Doors In Northern Ireland
Many of us Game of Thrones fans know the centuries-old Dark Hedges as the Kingsroad of Westeros.
This breathtaking length of road which travels beneath the famous towering beech tree tunnel in Northern Ireland is one of the most remarkable sights of nature to be seen.
If you’ve been lucky enough to witness its beauty with your own eyes, you know it is a very special place.
This would be the second time I saw the towering woods. The first in 2014. However, this time, my experience was much different than my last, as I was heartbroken to see that two of the trees had fallen due to Storm Gertrude in 2016.
A loss which no one can replace as these trees were hundreds of years old. Devastated, HBO and Tourism Northern Ireland found a way to keep their beauty alive by creating ten doors from the fallen wood which depicts scenes from the beloved TV series.
The doors, stunning in craftsmanship, can be seen at ten pubs, restaurants, and other venues close to Game of Thrones film locations.
And the lasting memory of these precious trees can be enjoyed for many years to come. You can even take a memory of these doors home by having your Journey of the Doors Passport stamped (available for free download online here).
Include these locations as part of your Game of Thrones film locations tour, or just for the fun of it.
