If you’ve been following my son’s YouTube channel then you know he’s super enthusiastic about robotics. Ever since I can remember he’s been collecting any and every odd and end in sight for his big inventions. So, when I told him we were getting a Littlebits Droid Inventor Kit he was pretty stoked. He couldn’t wait to crack the box open and get to work. We did an unboxing and let’s play video so you could see what building the Littlebits droid is like from start to finish. About the Littlebits Droid Inventor Kit
What is the Littlebits Droid Inventor Kit? It’s a Droid creation kit that allows kids (and you big giant adult kids) to create your own custom Droid using Littlebits electronic blocks (called Bits).
Littlebits
These blocks snap together with magnets, making inventing simple and accessible. It allows kids to use their motor skills and hands to make their own toys and creates challenges to get kids to think critically and be creative. The little bits are super easy to put together by using the free app.

The Littlebits app is so much fun. From the moment you open it up you hear the iconic Droid noises (which I don’t know about you but those totally give me the giddy tickles). The app not only walks you through the process of building your Droid with a 3D mapping system, but it gives you 16+ missions to complete in the process taking you from start to finish of building your Droid. And you can even customize and reconfigure your Droid for new powers.
Once Your Droid Has Been Brought to Life
Building your Droid is only half the fun. You can teach your new Droid to do tricks, control it with your phone & go on missions. My son is already planning to use his new Droid to wake me up in the morning. His second plan, to make it feed the dog. And when he’s done with that, he’s going to make an all new invention!

I love the product branding. It’s eye-catching and streamlined giving a lot of information about the product and what’s inside. Unlike other STEM products that often leave me confused before I even leave the store, Littlebits has a simple layout on their packaging which is representative of their product. Building your own Droid is insanely easy!
A Global Inventor Movement from Littlebits
Littlebits recently launched a global inventor movement for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). The Droid Inventor Kit invites kids, families, and Star Wars fans—residing in the US, UK, and Canada – to share their own unique Droid creations with the global inventor community. The competition will run from November 15, 2017, to January 10, 2018.
Fans and families will be able to submit their own leading-edge Droid design creations, judged by Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Daisy Ridley (the actress who portrays Rey in the current Star Wars trilogy) and Kelly Marie Tran (the actress who portrays Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi) alongside Ayah Bdeir (founder and CEO of littleBits) and Kathleen Kennedy (president of Lucasfilm). Everything about the Littlebits Inventor Kit is a win. My nine year old loved building it and even as I write this, is still playing with it in the kitchen (from what I hear introducing his new best friend to the dog). Now, about him teaching his Droid to feed the dog…

What a lovely idea – my nephew would love this – do you think the age recommendation is correct? At 7 he might be alittle young for it.
I think toys like this are amazing for encouraging skills withing fast developing markets. I’ve seen a lot of great engineering, coding and science based toys this year. Brilliant!

I finally know what a droid actually is…LOL…My nephews are gadget crazy and have asked their parents for a droid for Christmas and I’m assuming that it is a droid already built not a DIY version. Apparently its very expensive a few hundred euro’s. I must tell my sister about this kit as it seems like a great alternative to buying an assembled one.
This looks like an amazing gift for a boy or a girl or even an adult with an inner child like me.
