I was given The LEGO Batman Movie Blu-ray for the sake of this review, it in no way changes my opinions in this article. This article contains affiliate links to Amazon (at no cost to you).
I think we can say that LEGO has grown a bit of a cult following. Having been one of my favorite toys when I was a kid (proud 80’s baby here), I’m definitely a believer. When LEGO the Movie was released in 2014 the world (myself and son included) totally went bananas. I still sing “Everything is Awesome”. It left a big shoe for The LEGO Batman Movie to fill and with a worldwide gross of over $310 million, a Rotten Tomatoes score of 90% and critics calling it one of the great Batman movies ever, I’d say it filled the shoe pretty well. And with today’s in-home Blu-ray release, everything is still pretty freaking awesome.
What’s Inside The LEGO Batman Blu-ray
The cover art for The LEGO Batman Movie Blu-ray matches the promotional posters from the film’s theater release on February 10th. It includes the following:
- 4 New animated shorts
- 4 Deleted scenes
- 6 Featurettes
- A free kid’s ticket to LEGOLAND with the purchase of an adult ticket
- Digital HD with ULTRAVIOLET
- A DVD copy
At first glance, I was hoping to see more bonus material from the LEGO Batman Movie Blu-ray which is why I was delightfully surprised when I popped this sucker into the PS4. Not only does it contain everything I’ve listed above, but there’s also a Ninjago short, a commentary track by director Chris McKay and his crew and the social media shorts (which I personally about died over every time I saw them).
About the Animated Shorts
There are four animated LEGO Batman shorts plus a LEGO Ninjago short. Dark Hoser, Batman is Just Not that Into You, Cooking with Alfred and Movie Sound Effects: How do They do That. The Ninjago short is called The Master Ninjago Short.
About the Deleted Scenes
There are four deleted scenes which are portrayed in their conceptual stage they are; Batman Studio, Lollipop, Batman and Mayor Swap and Clayface.
About the Featurettes
There are six featurettes, you might want to set aside some time to watch these. They are; One Brick at a Time: Making the LEGO Batman Movie, Debrick Contest Winners, Inside Wayne Manor, Brick by Brick: The Making of the LEGO Batman Movie, Behind the Brick and Me and My Minifig.
About the Social Content
I love trailers and social content. There were some great ones for this film which you can find on the Blu-ray. They are; Trailer 1 with Will Arnett Intro, Trailer 2, Trailer 3, LEGO Life Trailer, Follow Me Online, Don’t Skip, Happy Holidays Jingle, Batsby New Year, Team Cutdown and my personal favorite the Comic Con Panel.
About the Commentary by Chris McKay
You can watch the film with commentary from director Chris McKay. It runs the length of the film so be prepared for a long haul but you’ll know everything there is to know about the film and its process by the time you’re through!
The LEGO Batman Movie will rank as one of my all time favorite films I’ve seen with my son. I would have been racing to the theater just as fast to see it even if I didn’t have a kid, it’s that good (and admittedly I’m a bit geeky like that). I highly recommend having it in your home collection. It’s the kind of film you can watch over and over and one that your kids will enjoy for years to come.

We haven’t seen the film yet but definitely want to! We have bought some of the sets but don’t know the plot behind it yet 🙁
We were actually at legoland yesterday and had a fab time! There’s a huge batman flying machine crashed in miniworkd at the moment. Monkey was eyeing this up. It sounds good! I like the look of the brickheadz too!
