I love trying new things, especially when it comes to cars. Recently I had the opportunity to work with Subaru to do a 2017 Subaru Impreza Review. I spent a week using the car to do my everyday things from grocery shopping to family time at the park and even combating Atlanta traffic. But the most memorable day of my week with Subaru was our day at the movies. And I do mean day.

Taking the Family to See Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in the 2017 Subaru Impreza

When you’re a geeky family, you tend to enjoy the little things in life like vintage Zelda cards and E.T. pens. Going to the movies is one of those things we find to be quite special. We look forward to theater releases like bonus checks. We go all out because, if a film is good enough to be seen on the big screen, it needs to be seen in style.

I had already had the chance to screen the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the Atlanta red carpet premiere. But this film was so good, I had to see it with the fam (review here). And I really wanted to see it in DOLBY CINEMA and IMAX 3D.

So that’s exactly what we did. Back to back viewings… and all day affair.

The closest DOLBY CINEMA theater is an hour away in Morrow, GA just south of the Atlanta airport. This meant we had to brave the hellacious traffic that is Atlanta’s and really put the Subaru to the test. My biggest focus was highway safety. Here are my comparisons to what Subaru Impreza is promoting vs. what the do-it-all mom (AKA me) experienced.

My Comparisons to What the 2017 Subaru Impreza is Promoting

Subaru Impreza came into 2017 hauling their reputation for durability and safety while adding a few new features.

Safety Features

  • Eyesight Safety Assist – monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control, and warns you when you’re swaying outside your lane.
  • Lane Keep Assist – helps you steer back into your lane.
  • The Pre-Collision Braking – full braking force in emergency situations.
  • Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame – high-tensile steel center pillar, side pillars, body-side frames, and floor crossmember positioned in a ring-like layout to form a protective shell around the passengers.
  • LED Steering Responsive Headlights and High Beam Assist – LED headlights actively track in the direction of a turn to enhance visibility.
  • Blind-Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert – Lets you know when you have a car in your blind spot and when someone is coming from the side while you’re backing up.
  • Reverse Auto Breaking – detects objects behind you and automatically stops the vehicle.

I have to say the Subaru Impreza really impressed me with its safety features. I was able to stop on a dime while in bumper to bumper traffic. I loved backing out with confidence in the parking lot and found the LED headlights to be really smart. The reverse auto breaking also makes me very confident. I live in an apartment where we always have small kids playing outside. I’m always nervous one will just zoom right behind me.

Built to Last

97% of all Impreza vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. I love this because cars are known to be the worst investment as they depreciate so fast. But when you know you can trust your ride for 10 years, now that’s something. I’m curious though as to how many repairs the 9-year-old vehicles have had.

What Did I Think About the Car in and Out

Going into this Subaru Impreza review I have to say I’m biased to SUVs and being low to the ground is always a challenge for me, but it has a nice body style. It doesn’t slap me in the face, but few cars do. The cabin is very pretty if you get all the bells and whistles. I especially like the LED display. The all-wheel-drive is very nice. I felt like I was really on the road at all times. Very much in control. It didn’t have a lot of cargo space in the back. It was enough for my small family of three but I can’t imagine this being big enough for a family of 4-5. But overall, it’s a nice car and worth the test drive, especially if you’re looking for safety.

Special thanks to Subaru for lending me the 2017 Subaru Impreza for review. It in no way shaped my opinions here.

  1. The Subaru Impreza looks like it’s an amazing ride — and I love the features of the car. And the cup holder in the back seat? Genius. And that trunk room?? Wow. I have a minivan and it seems like the Impreza would hold more in the trunk.

  2. I love that there are so many great safety features, and that you can fit so many groceries in the back! I am looking for a new car for the family, and I think I will have to give the Impreza a test drive.

It’s a pretty cool car! I love that its really spacious and perfect for families with kids. It’s definitely something that I would consider should I decide to upgrade my car someday soon.
