10 Haunted Places in Florida You Can Visit Today

I’ve been a Florida resident since my family moved here in 1989 (with the exception of my college years). Needless to say, with an obvious passion for travel, I’ve spent some time exploring this enormous state. That’s why I thought it would be fitting to share with you some of the more peculiar places in the ‘sunshine state’ like haunted places in Florida that you can actually visit! There are hundreds upon hundreds of places to explore, these are just some of the lesser known locations.

Haunted Places in Florida Visit them if You Dare

Jacksonville Beach Lifeguard Station

Now the home for the lifeguard station, this location has served as a makeshift hospital on occasion. Drowning victims have likely died here and the spirits of some are seen walking though doors. During one paranormal recording, a spirit reportedly stated that “drowning kills people”.

1900 Building, Melbourne

The former Melbourne hotel, the ghost of a young lady named Amelia wanders the halls looking for her lost love. She lived and died at the hotel and it is often told that her lost love was a sea captain who never returned.

Ashley’s of Rockledge

The body of Ethel Allen was found on a nearby riverbank in 1934. She is said to have been either a regular or employee of Jack’s Tavern (now Ashley’s). Sightings in the ladies room, whispers and objects moved after closing are just some of the ways that staff and patrons have reported the presence of Ethel.

Kenilworth Lodge, Sebring

Visitors and staff report strange noises, voices and sightings. Doors open and close all on their own and some guests report people getting into bed with them. The ghost of a former manager from the 1950’s, George Parker, is seen walking the halls late at night.

Hamburger Mary’s, Orlando

Originally built in the 1880’s, this bar and grill used to be a hardware store. Staff report seeing a little girl dressed in the Victorian style skipping on the sidewalk and tapping at the windows.

Humanities Building, Florida Atlantic University

There is said to be a ghost here who has been seen near the amphitheater who is crying and disappears when approached. One security person reported locking all of the doors on the third floor, then going down to the second floor. When he arrived there, he heard footsteps running on the third floor and doors slamming. When he and another guard went to check, everything was quiet and as it should be.

Ma Barker’s House, Ocklawaha

Ma “Kate” Barker, who was listed as the #1 most wanted fugitive in the United States and one of her sons died here following a shoot-out with authorities. The spirits of the Barkers are said to still haunt the home place.

Pritchard House, Titusville

There are several ghosts of the former inhabitants of the house, the Pritchard family, that are said to haunt this house. Strange noises, objects moving and broken grandfather clocks still sounding are among the phenomena that have been observed.

*****UPDATE***** I have been asked repeatedly by the owners of this home to remove this from the list. They claim the home is NOT haunted. However, if you google search ‘Pritchard house Titusville FL haunted’ you will find pages of information on its haunting. I have never been to this home and have no first-hand accounts of a haunting. I’m just here to bring you information as it comes to me. So there you have both sides. Do what you may with it. Note that they don’t allow investigations or photos. Probably because they are haunted AF.

Seven Sister’s Inn, Ocala

Multiple spirits have been seen and heard here. They are often seen going through the walls and doors. Apparently one spirit loves to steal people’s shoes, so beware! This is an active operating hotel, so might be a good place to stay for Halloween!

St. Augustine Lighthouse

Shadows and figures have been seen all over this landmark. Three children were killed here while it was being built and guests report hearing children’s laughter and someone pulling on their clothes, like a small child would. Others report the smell of cigar smoke and seeing former keepers and the daughters of a keeper who died when they slipped on wet rocks and fell into the ocean.
