This is a Trolls movie review. I screened the film a couple weeks ago. I have to admit when I first saw this film slated I was super stoked. I played with Trolls as a kid (the inspiration for the film) and had a total nerd moment when I saw the press release on it. Still, I wasn’t sold it was going to rock my taste as much as it would, let’s say, a four-year-old girl’s taste. Man, was I wrong.

Get Super Happy and Fall in Love with Justin and Anna – My Trolls Movie Review

So why is everyone freaking out over Trolls? You could say the awesome visuals, super fun colors and textures used to animate the film, the soundtrack and the characters set this film apart from other animated films. And while these things are all true, it’s the message that really takes it home.

The power of optimism. – Director Walt Dohrn

That’s what Director Walt Dohrn had to say in response to my recent interview question regarding the takeaway from the film. Our kids (and us adults) need to really consider this more. I love that the filmmakers have and that they’re sending this message. And they’re sending it in a big way.

With Epic Animation

The animation in Trolls is very special. The colors and sparkles in this movie made me a moth to a flame. With a textured look inspired by the crazy awesome hair of the trolls, it’s a really cool visual experience. I watched the children in this film and they were captivated by it. So were the parents… hell so was I!

Another really cool aspect is the scrapbooking segments that were created from actual real scrapbook pages made by a professional scrapbooker. It really gives the movie a handmade feel.

With a Stellar Lineup of Talent

Have you seen who’s in this film? I mean hello Justin Timberlake but let’s talk about Anna Kendrick, Russell Brand, Gwen Stefani and James Corden! What a fun bunch to get together and they totally nailed it.

With Relateable Content

It’s nice when you can sit through a film with your kid and be entertained too. There’s a lot of relatable content in Trolls that makes it a captivating film for all audiences. Not just little girls. My son (who’s weeks from 8 years old) was glued to this movie and has been singing the songs ever since.

With an Epic Soundtrack Produced by Justin Timberlake

Oh. My. God. I literally fell in love with Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick after this film. I mean I was a fan before, but these two sing together like they dropped from the Pearly Gates of Heaven. Not to mention, it features five original songs including songs by Justin Timberlake and Gwen Stefani in addition to a number of classic hits from the 60’s – 80’s).

In Closing

I was completely shocked at how much I loved this film. I love it, love it, love it and I’ll even add this one to my collection when it’s out on Bluray. It’s that good. The animation, music and story line message are freaking awesome! Go see it, it’s in theaters now, and I recommend 3d.
