If you want to relocate to the UK with a pet, you will need to learn the rules and regulations of the country before you proceed with your plans. Just like many countries, the UK has its own rules to follow when it comes to importation of animals into the country. Make sure you follow them and both you and your furry friend will enjoy your new home.

Relocate to the UK with a Pet

What kind of pet do you have?

Before you go ahead and relocate to the UK if you have a dog, please make sure it isn’t any of the following breeds;

  • Pit Bull Terrier
  • Japanese Tosa
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Fila Brasileiro

The above dog breeds are banned from entering the UK. If your dog is of a different breed, then you can go ahead with your plans. However, the dog must be;

  • Three and above months old.
  • Not more than a month pregnant or suckling a puppy
  • In good health.

Microchip

There are specific rules and regulation that you are supposed to follow to move with your pet to the UK. First, your dog must have an ISO standard microchip on it, or a tattoo with its identity to enable the airline vet to read its details.

Vaccines

After the vet has implanted a microchip on your pet, he then has to immunization it against rabies. If you come from the listed countries, you can then wait for 21 days before you travel to the UK with your pet.

If your country of origin is among the unlisted countries, a blood test is required at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination to prove whether the animal is fit to travel or not. You then need to wait for three more months after the result is confirmed before you can enter the UK. Remember to bring a copy of the test records with the date of when the blood test was taken from the vet. Also, ensure your dog gets treated for ticks and tapeworm not more than five days before your departure.

If you follow the above rules, then you will be able to get your furry friend into the UK.

Transporting your pet

Every pet has to fly through an approved route to the UK. Either way, it will have to be in a comfortable and an FAA approved flight crate. Make sure your pet is familiar with the kennel before the flight. Read here more about shipping your pet to the UK. Also, be sure that you’re following the FAA rules for transport.

Arriving in the UK

If you strictly followed the above rules while relocating your dog/cat to the UK, your pet won’t be quantitated. Otherwise, if you miss in any of the steps involved, you’ll have no choice than to part ways with it for some time. You will also have to pay more for the quantitate facility.

To relocate your cat/dog to the UK, you need to follow all the rules. However, you don’t have to go through it all alone. A pet shipping company can be very helpful. Using a pet shipping company will ease your burden and ensure everything is in order so that you can travel without having to worry about a thing.  Also, make sure you have all of your pets favorites!
