The following is a full Fairytale Traveler experience, our first hand take on the Disney on Ice Frozen on Ice review. While we were given four complimentary tickets to this event, it in no way shaped our opinion of this review.
Everyone is talking about the all new Disney on Ice Frozen on Ice. I mean how could they not, after all Frozen IS the number one selling animated movie of all time. According to Hollywood Reporter,
Disney’s Oscar-winning Frozen has become the top-grossing animated film of all time, surpassing the $1.063 billion earned by fellow Disney/Pixar titleToy Story 3.
Frozen now occupies the No. 10 spot on the list of the biggest global blockbusters and is the first billion-dollar title from Disney Animation Studios, as well as the seventh from Disney. It has earned $398.4 million domestically and $674 million internationally for a total $1.072 billion.
Yeah so it’s kind of a big deal. And man, did Feld Entertainment bring that big deal to the ice. Holy cow! I mean, admittedly, I’m not a Disney mom. I love Disney, grew up with Disney, but Disney moms are in a whole category on their own. They take this stuff to the next level.
Me, I’m just happy to be around fairy tales. So, when we were invited to Disney on Ice Frozen on Ice I was like, “sure I’ll go, it’s free and I’m here so sure.” Man did I underestimate this one… much like I did with Feld’s Marvel Universe Live (which was flippin awesome by the way).
Disney on Ice Frozen on Ice Review
As soon as we walked in we were getting pumped. The set and lights were so… icey! Now most people probably wouldn’t think to take their six-year old boy to this but don’t be fooled… The Little knows all the words to Frozen and wouldn’t (and didn’t) hesitate to belt them out in full theatrical form.
The opening act started with a tribute to Disney on Ice. It was pretty cool seeing all the characters for Disney skate out onto the ice. There were a lot of oohs and aaahs as Disney Princesses and their princes danced in flawless harmony. Then of course you had Mickey and Minnie which is always a crowd pleaser, but then all the other Disney characters were there too. Still this was a mere taste of what was to come.
Do You Wanna Build a Snowman
Okay, so picture yourself surrounded by an ice hockey arena of little girls and boys when this song came on… OMG, cutest thing EVER! I don’t know what I enjoyed more, seeing all the little Annas and Elsas in the audience singing along or seeing the performers. Either way, this act was awesome as Anna and Elsa skated through their opening scene of Frozen as little girls.
From here the show continued almost play for play as it does in the movie with the Coronation, Anna meeting her flaky new boyfriend, Elsa running away, the Snow Monster, the rock trolls, the freezing of Anna’s heart and the saving of Arendelle and Anna from true love. Here are my favorite highlights:
The Coronation
Very colorful and with lots of skaters. There was a lot of artistic skating here and choreography. The costumes were amazing (and are throughout the entire show).
Elsa Running Away
This was cool because they used pyrotechnics and smoke (maybe dry ice) and snow machines to simulate Elsa’s magic. Elsa’s dress of course was AMAZE!
The Snow Monster
When he came out of nowhere I was so stoked! I mean this thing was HUGE! I’m so glad I actually got a photo of it, see how big he is next to Anna!
The Rock Trolls
Okay, I almost melted when they came out. How cool to see the trolls dancing around on skates and the costumes (again I know) flawless.
Anna’s Frozen Heart
This was pretty cool, I don’t want to spoil it but it definitely was a creative touch since you can’t actually freeze someone in real life.
The Music
It’s all there. Every song you’ve heard countless times echoing from the bathtub… it’s all there. Except now you have a bunch of kids singing along ha! Here’s some of the songs you’ll hear at Frozen on Ice: Let it Go, Do You Want to Build a Snowman, and Fixer Upper.
Not My Favorite
The pricing of merchandise. I still think it’s too high. I know the licensing is not cheap but yeesh… Also it would have been cool to have a VIP experience offered to customers for a certain price. I’d much rather spend money on my kid doing a special meet and greet maybe in a room where kids can make crafts or get hot chocolate… some kind of room set up like Arendelle, then paying a ton of money on sippy cups and T shirts… but that’s me.
In Summary
In summary of our Disney on Ice Frozen on Ice review, we absolutely LOVED it and would totally go back and see it again and again. The opening act is a roundup of all the Disney characters and is pretty cool but has nothing to do with the Frozen performance.
Familiar characters seen on the ice are Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff, whom are all regulars at Disney Theme Parks, but Disney on Ice brought the big guns, introducing Olaf, Sven, Hans, the Duke, the trolls and the Snow Monster! The costuming was insanely well done and the acts were creatively thought out and choreographed almost scene for scene.
Not one kid in that place left with less magic in their hearts than they arrived with and that’s what it’s all about. Well done Feld!
