Road Trip Advice That Will Give You an Edge

Despite what it might look like in the movies, road trips actually require a lot of careful planning, especially if you want to make the most of your time on the road and avoid potential dangers such as road traffic accidents

it’s mindful to note that if you’ve been injured in an accident that wasn’t your fault then contact a personal injury attorney in Fort Lauderdale to discuss any claims you might have – but what else should you consider before hitting the open road?

Make Sure Your Vehicle Can Get You There

You’re going to be driving for extended periods of time, so your vehicle needs to be up to the task.

Driving, Road trip advice

If you’re hiring a vehicle, make sure you do plenty of research on the company you’re hiring from and read the small print of any contracts which could include hidden fines and costs.

Get to know what fuel the vehicle takes – to avoid any expensive mistakes at the gas station – familiarise yourself with where the lights are, the wipers and how to open the hood, check the oil levels and the tire pressure.

If you’re taking your own vehicle then take it to a local garage and get the experts to give it the once over and if you don’t know how to change a tire – now is the time to learn!

Invest in a Car Emergency Kit

It’s always a good idea to be prepared, and when you’re on the road, even more so!

Having an emergency car kit to hand means that whether you’ve broken down in the middle of nowhere or you’re stuck in traffic for several hours, you’re safe and comfortable for the duration. Consider the following items for your car kit:

  • A wind-up torch
  • Jump cables
  • Blankets and warm clothing
  • Bottled water and dry food
  • A basic tool kit
  • A fuel container in case you have to walk to get gas

An Additional Phone Charger

You’ll be using your phone more than usual on the road. Whether that’s updating social media, chatting with your mom while she checks up on you, using GPS or keeping yourself occupied when you’re not behind the wheel.

Phone and charger

Including an additional charger that you can plug directly into your vehicle is an absolute must.

Your Sense of Humor Must Be Readily Available

Don’t leave home without it. If you’re traveling with friends then chances are you’re going to irritate each other at some point.
