Summer is almost here. The kids will be home, the heat will be real and you might get a little bit cranky. That’s why it’s a great time to chill out. And you don’t even have to be going on vacation to do it. A little me time here and there goes a long way to reset your mood and in the long run, can make you more, you know, chill.
10 Ways to Chill Out this Summer
1. Read a New Book Series
This is the best way to chill out. Find a brand new book series to get lost in. I’m going to be reading Shadowhunters which has tons of books to work through. Hello me time!
2. Play Games on Your Tablet or Phone
Okay so I’m like crack addicted to Pet Rescue, but I’m at level 300 and something. And when I die, I need another game to play (don’t act like you don’t know what I mean). So my partner got me turned onto online gaming (like poker and stuff). I know, sounds cliche but dude, he plays all the time! And I figure if it gives me peace of mind and sharpens my gaming skills then watch out Vegas!
Don’t laugh this is a real thing. I was browsing through my YouTube videos one day on my projector and came across affirmations for success. I just laid there listening to all the positive vibes and fell asleep. I swear when I woke up, I felt 100.
4. Take a Walk
Believe it or not, exercise can chill you out. Get outside and take a stroll. If you have a dog, walk your dog! Your dog will love you for it and you will feel refreshed too.
5. Play a Game of Solitaire
My grandfather used to play solitaire all day long. He retired and would sit around and just play all day. He taught me to play (with real cards) and then, of course, I got into it on my computer. Now anytime I’m on a flight I always have to play a few rounds to chill out.
6. Get a Google Home and Ask it to Help You Relax
True story! I am a total geek when it comes to gadgets. When the Google Home launched I had to have one. Now I get emails all the time about all the things it can do. One of the recent emails I got was on asking Google to help you relax. So I said, “Okay Google, help me relax.” And wouldn’t you know, it played a thunderstorm. It also will play the ocean, a river, a fan, white noise and a country night. Pretty cool right?
7. Start a DIY Project
Okay so confession, I had a stupid fight with my boyfriend the other day and I just wanted to reset the brain. So I whipped out some paint and started painting the dining room table. As I sat there (with my Google Home thunderstorm of course) I thought, “this is super relaxing”. And it truly was. I felt so much better and he even came in and helped me finish. Winning!
8. Give Yourself an Hour Away from it All
I know it seems like a million years when you’re busy, but we all have to decompress. Sometimes I just check out. I go in my room and play online games or I read an article on the web. Whatever you choose to do, get away from everyone.
9. Wine and Cheese Please
One of my favorite (and I do mean favorite) ways to chill is to pour a glass of wine, cut up a few strawberries, slice some cheese and grab a handful of dark chocolates, then just kick back and enjoy. No one else, just me and my wine. Yes, please.
10. Look at Old Photos
I always catch myself smiling when I look through my old Facebook photos or just stuff on my computer. Especially when it’s pictures of my son. I mean the kind of smile that’s super real and just sits on your face the entire time. If you’re smiling you’re definitely chilling out.
BONUS: I couldn’t help myself since I literally spent the entire weekend binge watching on my ZTE smart projector. You can always curl up and watch a good flick. This is a great way to unwind any day of the week, any hour of the day. Just mentally check out and relax.
Remember, adulting is hard. Take a few minutes for yourself every day, chill out and be boss level at life. You’ll be happier and people around you will be happier. And that’s really what matters.
