We’re not letting it go yet! Just days after The Fairytale Traveler interview with Frozen Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck off the Cinderella World Premiere featuring the short Frozen Fever, Disney announced this morning a Frozen 2 is officially in the works. From a press release minutes ago:
Winter weather ahead! Frozen 2 is officially in development at Walt Disney Animation Studios with directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and producer Peter Del Vecho, the Oscar®-winning filmmaking team behind Frozen.
The news was announced at Disney’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders this morning by Bob Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company; John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios; and actor Josh Gad, who provides the voice of Olaf from Frozen.
“We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters,” said John Lasseter. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”
Last year, the new Disney movie took the world by storm. After the latest Disney movies had gotten somewhat mellow reviews, Frozen arrived and awed the critics. Combining Norse fairytales and superstition with Danish writer HC Andersen’s The Snow Queen, Frozen created a fairytale universe with princesses, trolls, reindeer, snow, high mountains and a sprinkle of magic. It has now grossed US$1.2 billion, making it the most successful animated film of all time, and the fifth highest-grossing movie ever.
A release and production date has not yet been announced, but we will keep you in the know as soon as it is! I think everyone will be anticipating the release of Frozen 2. And if you just can’t wait that long, make sure to see Cinderella in theaters March 13th with the short Frozen Fever showing in front of it.
