As some of you may have seen, Ron Howard is in post production with his latest film, In the Heart of the Sea. Needless to say I have been teeming with anticipation for the release of this film. When it was first announced in 2013, I was literally on the edge of my seat with excitement. I was in love with this movie and it hadn’t even been halfway through production. My first reasoning, even if it was an utter flop, it stars Chris Hemsworth (my all time swoon material Thor) and Cillian Murphy (who I fell hopelessly in love with back in 2002 for his role in 28 Days Later). But hot pop culture guys aside, why haven’t they made this dramatic historic account into a movie sooner? Either way, it’s about time, and no better time to bring you the In the Heart of the Sea trailer.
The Background of, In the Heart of the Sea
To understand In the Heart of the Sea, we have to go back to 1820 when the New England whaling ship Essex was sunk by a giant whale. It was this actual event that inspired the writing of the 1851 American Romantic Classic, Moby-Dick. In May of 2000, American writer Nathaniel Philbrick wrote the historic retelling of the whaling ship, In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex. Now, rescheduled for December 2015, In the Heart of the Sea comes to be realized in a dramatic, emotional and compelling cinematic retelling of the horrific final voyage of the Essex.
Film Summary
In the fall of 1819, Nantucket’s whaling ship Essex leaves on its final voyage to South America. By November 20, 1820 it was completely destroyed by a mammoth-sized, intelligent sperm whale. In the Heart of the Sea is the dramatic retelling of a true story of survival, death, cannibalism, and the aftermath of its devastation.
