Disney’s Into the Woods Film Locations and Trailer England

Watching the Into the Woods trailer literally gives me goosebumps. To some, this may seem a conglomeration of famous fairytales. This is so much more than that.

Walt Disney Pictures will yet again take us on a magical and enchanted journey through our very own half-forgotten childhood memories where cardboard boxes were castle dungeons and teddy bears were prince charmings. Explore the Into the Woods film locations and find yourself in a real-life fairytale.

Into the Woods a Modern-Day Retelling of the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales

Into the Woods, coming from the Broadway musical which premiered in 1987, tangles the famed classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—into an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), who hope to begin a family if not for the evil wicked witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.

Exceptional filmmaker, Rob Marshall is known for the musical Chicago, and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean reins the film alongside John DeLuca, Wicked producer Marc Platt, and Callum McDougall.

Into the Woods Film Locations

Dover Castle in Dover Kent, England, UK

Also known for being the film location for the 1960’s TV series, Dr. Who, Dover Castle is an absolutely stunning location for a fairytale film. This medieval castle noted as the “Key to England” because of its militant history in England.

A protected historical, heritage, and archaeological site, Dover Castle couldn’t be more enchanting with Iron Age findings and even secret tunnels.

Waverley Abbey, Farnham, Surrey England, UK

The first Cistercian abbey in England, Waverley Abbey founded in 1128, is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It has been over time turned into ruins, damaged on more than one occasion by severe flooding. Its walls suffering nearly as much as its monks who were known to have endured poverty and famine.

You can really see the enchanting pieces of the abbey come to life just through photographs. I can’t wait to see it on Christmas Day in Disney’s Into the Woods. The ruins of the abbey are now managed by English Heritage and open to the public.

Hambleden of Buckinghamshire, England, UK

Having not seen the movie yet, I can only presume that the interest of Hambleden for Into the Woods, was made from its countryside wrapping around sleepy medieval cottages, rolling impossible hills, and the beautiful St. Mary’s Church which dates back to the 14th century. The church, boasting an eight-bell tower, houses an intricate decorative ceiling that I’d be hard-pressed to see not show up in the film.

Get your Pinterest open, you’re going to want this on your list of “Fairytale Places.” A Fairytale Traveler favorite film location also for Tim Burton’s  Sleepy Hollow.

Virginia Water, Surrey, England, UK (Forest)

Now, this is just a hunch, but if Disney took Into the Woods to Virginia Water, I’m betting it was to Windsor Great Park. 5,000 acres large bordering Surrey, the park was, for many centuries, the private hunting ground of Windsor Castle and dates primarily from the mid-13th century.

It is now open to the public and is a popular recreation space for locals and visitors. There are so many fairytale places in the Great Park. From its ancient oaks to the famed “Long Walk” to Windsor Castle, every inch of this place is enchanting.

A Fairytale Traveler favorite film location for Robin Hood (2010), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), the Curse of the Werewolf (1961), Tv Series Dr. Who (1961).

Into the Woods on a Personal Note

Clearly, you know that I love fairytales. More and more you are seeing these fantastic timeless tales being revamped and restyled for a modern approach. I am a firm believer that it is retellings like these that keep the magic alive and illuminate our hearts with adventure.

I am so very grateful for Disney to be creating this film on the trail of others like Malificent (2014), Pirates of the Caribbean (2003-current), and the soon-to-be-released Cinderella (2015). They have always brought the magic to our hearts, and are the cradle of every child’s fairytale adventures, and are still enchanting mine and the Little Fairytale Traveler’s lives.
