My New Favorite Cyber Store for the Holidays

Say it with me, “holiday shopping is mind-bending”. And I don’t mean to start off with the tarnished lining, but let’s be real. On paper it’s all puppy dogs and unicorns until you have to wedge in the hours upon hours of shopping in stealth mode to get it all done. And I won’t even talk about the complete animalistic encounters we have with other shoppers as we all bring in that “holiday cheer” to the long lines at registers. Yeah…jingle all the way to no thank you. That’s why I have been sourcing my favorite online retailers for really cool gifts. You know, the ones you have to get for your boss, sister who has everything, geek blogger friend, favorite traveling uncle…

Up until now, my fail safe online picks have always been Etsy, Amazon and Best Buy. And of course I still go to these retailers for certain things. But I’ve just added a whopper to the list called Uncommon Goods. This site is full of unique gifts for men, women and kids with categories like; under $25, cooks, geeks, beer lovers, travelers, recycled and handmade (to name a few). I’m like,

Why yes, thank you, I love making my life easier! Now pass the nog as I jingle all the way through my holiday shopping in my pajamas!” (insert jolly laughter here).

uncommon goods

But wait, they’re no ordinary retailer! They’re a retailer with a message!

Uncommon Goods features unique designs and handcrafted gifts created in harmony with the environment and without harm to animals or people. They run all their operations out of the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal, including their warehouse where the lowest-paid seasonal worker starts at 50% above the minimum wage. They make it their mission to support and provide a platform for artists and designers; in fact, half of what they sell is made by hand. Most of the products they carry are created right here in the USA, and about one-third of their collection incorporates recycled and/or upcycled materials.

The core of our company is a great respect for the integrity of the creative individual and the belief that it is our responsibility to use our business to impact the world in a positive way.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this message!

Check out some of the sweet finds I’ve come upon for this season:

Travel Picnic Backpack

This is so cool and handy! Especially for the adventure family like mine! I visit some of the farthest corners of the world like the fairy sites in Ireland. Who wouldn’t want to have a picnic at a fairy site!

Molecular Gastronomy Kit

Uncommon Goods gastronomy

What a fun way to try your hand at this one! If you know a culinary geek, or someone who’s dabbling, this is perf!

Scratch Map

Love this! Scratch your way around the globe. I know my son would think this is super cool. I would even have one in my own office.

Mobile Foods Kit

Uncommon Goods spices

Oh I can so relate to this one! We just went on a big camping trip and had no spices. I had to go out and buy everything in the mountains only to leave it all with the camping neighbor. I could have just had this with my spices from home. Very handy.

Bluetooth Tracking Tag

Uncommon Goods tracking

I think I need one of these for myself! Who doesn’t lose their keys once in awhile? It’s simple and classy too. Love this idea.

Carry-On Cocktail Kit

I swear they designed this for me. I love having my in-flight cocktail, but it’s never quite the same. I love this idea. Do they sell in bulk is the real question…

Uncommon Goods feature

I’m so over the in-store nightmare that has become holiday shopping. I swear there’s no morals when it comes to marketing sometimes. With the best deals starting right when the turkey hits the table, bargain shoppers are being lured in the millions leaving their families and trading savings for that pumpkin pie. I say screw that!!! How dare you rob me of my pumpkin pie!

The Uncommon Goods site has tons of holiday finds like the ones I’ve listed here. I literally spent about an hour the first time I clicked. Lucky enough for my loved ones (and me) I found it in time for this year’s shopping spree. I’ll be enjoying my turkey and pumpkin pie with my family thank you. Shop, sip eggnog, and repeat. That’s my holiday shopping strategy this year!

  1. I love Uncommon Goods, I have been buying gifts there for years. One of my favorite items they sell is an Emergency Clown Nose. I try to gift at least one per year, I love them so much! I have one of the scratch maps and they are really nice.
